Portrait of Wayne Chan, Psy.D.

Wayne Chan, Psy.D.

I have my Doctorate of Psychology from Argosy University and Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley.

Aside from psychotherapy, my background includes teaching inner-city youth, and participating in and coaching sports. In my teens I competed in high-level soccer and tennis. I have organized and coached soccer teams for community groups, and taught tennis, gymnastics, and art at various times.

My other interests include Muay Thai, boxing, Capoeira, Jiu Jitsu, break dancing, obstacle course racing, trail running, and mountain biking. In the past, I also dabbled in tap dancing, kendo, and Tae Kwon Do.

In all these activities, what I enjoy most is learning, including learning from and alongside my students and clients. These activities also allow me to work my creativity, sight-see and wonder, adapt to different terrain, explore rhythms in nature and movement, and turn intimidating obstacles and problems into fun play areas. These are the concepts that I hope to continue exploring alongside my clients.

Currently, I fall a lot as I’m learning to park skate and surfskate.
